How much should a Bichon Frise eat daily?
Most adult Bichon Frises weigh between 5 and 8 kg, so a rough daily starting point is 90 to 140 g of a nutrient-dense premium kibble, split across two meals. Check that against your own bag, because energy density varies a lot between brands and a food bulked out with fillers needs a bigger serve to do the same job.
The tricky part with Bichons is the coat. All that white fluff hides a lot, and plenty of owners don't notice their dog has gained weight until the groomer says something. So do the check with your hands, not your eyes. Run a flat palm along their side. You should feel ribs easily under a thin layer of cover, and see a waist behind the ribs when you look down at them.
Scale matters too. On a 5 kg Bichon, an extra 500 g is 10% of their body weight. That's the same proportional gain as 3 kg on a Labrador, and it comes from a handful of extra biscuits over a few weeks. Nothing dramatic, which is exactly why it sneaks up.
Weigh portions on kitchen scales, count treats inside the daily total rather than adding them on top, and pop in to your vet clinic monthly to use the waiting room scales. If the weight is moving and you haven't changed anything, that's a conversation to have with your vet.
